After graduating from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, TX, I continued my education at San Antonio College where I studied music education for two years. While at San Antonio College I performed with various ensembles including their Wind Ensemble where I was principal percussionist for four semesters, Brass Ensemble, Choir and Pep Band. I was also a member of the TCCBDA All State Band for two years. During my second year at SAC, I was awarded a prestigious scholarship that is given to only one music education student per year. This scholarship enabled me to transfer to Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
During my time at Texas State University I was principal percussionist of the Wind Symphony for four semesters including Spring of 2014, during which we participated in the CBDNA Southwest Division Conference in Arkansas. I was also the section leader of the Texas State Bobcat Drumline for two years. Additionally, I performed with the Texas State Symphonic Winds and various percussion ensembles. While at Texas State, I chose to expand my performance experiences outside the collegiate level. I was a member of The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from San Antonio, TX in the summers 2012 and 2013. I was also a member of Imperial Percussion Theater from Houston, TX in 2012 and was Ensemble Captain in 2013. In 2014 I was a member of Teatro Indoor Percussion from Austin, TX in their inaugural season where I was snare section leader and Ensemble Captain.
Since the fall of 2009 I have taught many percussion groups including outdoor and indoor ensembles. Most recently I taught the Lee High School Indoor Percussion from San Antonio, TX in 2013, the Gonzales High School Percussion from Gonzales, TX in 2014 and have been the acting percussion director at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, TX since the spring of 2014.
Now, in the middle of student teaching at MacArthur High School, I have been exposed to much more than just teaching percussion. I am learning many very important aspects of teaching wind instruments as well as teaching in general. I've learned in great detail about organization, scheduling, parent involvement, dealing with conflict, goal setting and so much more.
Thank you for reading my credentials. I look forward to making a difference in the world of education and in the lives of many students for many years.
